Well, the World Cup is under way. It’s my favorite sport by far, and I am happy. The music and people are amazing. I even learned that there is a World Cup Competition and Twitter page, although I’m not sure how legitimate they are. In the world of all this hooplah tho, I couldn’t believe that the vuvuzela can cause hearing loss. It’s an african instrument that is the cause of the beehive sound on TV. And if it’s that loud on TV, imagine how loud it is in the stands. In fact, its so bad that it’s claimed to be louder than a chainsaw. To put this in perspective, I’m told the Vuvuzela’s loudness is 127db, while a chain saw is 125db, skydiving is 105 db, a rock concert is 100 db, and talking in person is 80 db.

As I mentioned before, after I went skydiving, I got Tinnitus pretty bad for about 6 weeks, and it has since almost went away completely. I even had a teacher from Uarts who got tinnitus from performing at a concert where the percussionist next to him had a high pitch bell that damaged his hearing that night after he played next to him.

Why am I constantly blogging about hearing loss. Well, I’m a composer who is concerned about it, understands that people aren’t too educated about it, and I have experienced it. I actually carry ear plugs on my key chain. But now that that is done, let me just say – Go Portugal!!!
