This past weekend was amazing. It got me thinking again about my roots as a creator, and brought me back to the reality of where my passion lies – in the Inter Arts.
After attending another backyard bash at David Chaitt‘s place in Brooklyn, I was invited to a rooftop party Sunday night by Christina Caceres. Unsure about attending another rooftop party, I’m glad I checked it out. It turned out to be one of the best party’s I’ve ever attended in NYC.
After arriving, I immediately was surrounded by hundreds of artists around town at this large, unknown rooftop in Brooklyn. The mobs of people migrated from the roof, to the street, to the building, to another ‘inside’ party, and continually back again.
But at midnight something magical organically happened. I was surrounded by dancers, live music, laughing, conversation, food, beer, paintings, and friends all on a humongous rooftop overlooking the city. Then suddenly a flame thrower comes out and does her act. Then a group of kids began setting off fireworks into the sky for fun. There was so much happening, it was an experience.
You know that moment that you see the world from another perspective? It’s difficult to explain – something similar to an out of body experience, but not as dramatic? This was it.
It was the perfect reminder for why I loved what I do so much. It’s about the Inter Arts. I dream of the day that orchestras aren’t simply just music performances, but experiences. I want flame throwers, dancers, lights, smoke, acrobats, orchestra, games, collaboration, and more. Imagine a show like that? How cool would that be? My Poker Face performance was close.
The sums are greater than their parts. I almost forgot about that. Sometimes reminders come in the most unexpected ways.
