Some things are worth passing on. Whether its an idea, an item, a story, or a melody.
I first met Sxip Shirey when I was in Boston for Amanda Palmer. He was a musician who had crazy instruments, an interesting passion for new ideas, and awesome hair.
So today I was on TED’s website and came across a video of Sxip performing at the conference. This is worth passing on for a number of reasons. One of which is that I want to share it with you because it was really interesting, and I liked how he thinks outside the box to create a musical piece based on breathing.
It goes back to the “quote“Well behaved women rarely make history.” But I feel that quote refers to anyone. It’s about trying new things. Don’t always play it safe.
Sxip breaks the mold. Amanda Palmer breaks the mold. After having met Sxip, we grabbed drinks in Brooklyn, and it was one of the most eye-opening conversations I’ve ever had. His way of doing was so fresh, and my way of thinking was so wrong. I learned so much when I met those two. They’re strong, their music is beautiful, and they’re fearless. Just looking back and seeing this video while I was browsing the TED site made me think a lot about the wonderful people I’ve been fortunate enough to connect with, and that’s worth passing on.
