Remember how your parents always bragged to their friends about everything you were doing? “My kids an honor student”, “OMG look at Jimmy’s drawing, that’s amazing! Let’s put it up on the fridge!”, “Katie is such a fast learner at gymnastics!”
Well, always be that person. The reason they proclaim about you is not only because they love you – it’s because they believe in you. Everyone needs a cheerleader. Everyone wants a believer.

When I’m out at events or parties I always find myself talking about what other people are doing, rather than myself. I brag about what they’ve done, their career, their attitude, and all the great things that are headed their way. I spread the good word of everything around me – whether people, items, ideas, etc. I don’t even realize I’m doing it most of the time. Your beliefs become so ingrained in you that it becomes a subconscious action.
It goes back to Derek Sivers’ post about “Hell Yea or no“. If you’re not 100% into something then don’t surround yourself by it. And when you surround yourself by everything you’re crazy about – people, ideas, friends, lifestyle, career, fashion, art, music – then you want to spread the good word. You want to be the evangelist, because passion and confidence are worth spreading.
Anyone who owns an Apple computer talks about it. Anyone who loves a band wears their shirt. When you love someone you tell the world. These are extreme examples, but they show passion.
Don’t be shy, don’t be unsure of yourself, and don’t be surrounded my mediocre things. Be big, be a cheerleader, be proud. People will notice, and you’ll always be the person they want to see. Be authentic, be passionate, and stay interested in the interesting.
And to all aspects of your life – be the evangelist.
