I’m sitting at Madison Square Garden at the NY Rangers game right now, and I’m noticing the music mostly rock, with a little organ ‘Fight Fight Fight, Lets go!’ thrown in during commercials.
This isn’t a rant about how there is no orchestra music (which there isn’t). It’s about how music can be timeless, and Borderless.
Simultaneously, no matter what goes on, everyone knows what to do and say when only a few notes are played. I think that’s amazing – that over 20,000 people all at once come together and recognize something within a second, and finish it’s melody.
These melodies and chants have been carried on for centuries. Music is timeless. These melodies and chants are performed throughout the world – unchanged. Music is borderless.
The orchestra has been carried on for years and changes lives. Melodies are performed and sung. They can change the character to a movie, or put a smile on someone’s face.
In as many languages are created, learned, adapted, rejected, or changed – one thing is never effected. Music.
And this is why music and the orchestra is powerful. Not because of the what it does to us as we write it, but because of what it does to us as we listen to it. Being a musician is amazing, but being a listener is even better.
