For Orchestra #13: SxePhil Theme Song

August 14th, 2009 View Comments

OK – this one is short… but its a Theme Song! Well… sort of. SxePhil is one of the most popular channels on Youtube. I thought it’d be fun to do something a little ‘outside’ of the lines, and in traditional fashion of mine – unpredictable. I’ve done Lady Gaga, Rick Astley, Michael Jackson, and even more. But what about theme songs, or Rage Against the Machine, or Kanye West? What about the Philadelphia Eagles chant, or the Keyboard Cat theme? I’ll get to them… give me time :)

First I’d like to say that this song meant a lot to me because SxePhil is a cool guy who openly discusses his health issues. Why is this important to me? Well, its important that people remember that every one has their own problems – including me. Hopefully, I have this correct – but Philip Defranco (AKA SxePhil) was diagnosed with PKD, and actually started Youtube’ing due to his grandfather also being diagnosed with it and raise awareness for it. There’s something cool about doing things to help others, and seeing that they were successful at raising awareness. So to you readers – keep your chin up, and carry on.

I like interesting things. I like the orchestra. I like doing interesting songs and ideas WITH the orchestra. So this week was a good introduction to doing something new. The funny thing about arranging a song For Orchestra is that an 11 second song takes JUST as long as a 4 minute song. This is because the orchestration, production, and transcribing is where 90% of the work is from, which you have to do in every song anyway. In addition a 4 minute song usually has Verse / Chorus / Verse / Chorus. So the result is that once you transcribe the first Verse / Chorus, then you’re already 90% complete – just simply repeat!

In the video you can watch the difference between the original and the new orchestrated version. So check it out! I took the guitar part and gave it to the violin, and the doubled it with the flutes!

Doing new things is always what has inspired me. I constantly try new foods, travel, experiment, meet people, and write interesting music. Its’ what gets me up in the morning. SxePhil was a fun one to do as opposed to say.. the Pokemon Theme Song because I liked the context of this piece and the short duration of it. Not that the Pokemon Theme song would be a bad suggestion…

Personal Issues

August 9th, 2009 View Comments

OK – sorry for having trouble blogging every day and having this weeks song by the weekend, too.

There are some personal issues (family emergencies) that I had to take care of this week. Yes – I’m OK, but family comes first. Nobody wants to hear bad news about anything, so I’m taking this all in stride. That being said – look out for a bunch of new stuff this Tuesday, and then another song hopefully by Friday.

Another crazy weekend that I spent updating music tutorials for everyone, re-arranging some orchestral tracks, family issues, and getting new studio equipment for my music production.

Being 25 is an interesting age, because you start to unerstand how things work andsee the world differently. You begn to try new things, take bigger risks, walk taller, and smile bigger. I always say that every day of my life is better than the day before it – and its truly/ .I really feel that sway.

I relate it to climbing a tall mountain.. Imagine climbing a little bit each day. As the days go on, you are tired, but that ultimately you know that if you keep at it you’ll eventually reach the top no matte what. In addition, as each day goes by you get higher and higher in elevation. The higher he elevation the bettewr your view. Think of the view as your life, and the mountain as the journey, and the top of the mountain as the goal.

Thew view gets better every day, and one can only go in one direction when motivated – up.

So all the emergenceies I may have in life I know that it makes me stronger and better and more understanfing. these things awre out of my control, is continue on.

And keep your chin up. Always.

Interaction

So there are a few things I would like to do with For Orchestra. Obviously, getting a tour going would be awesome. But I would like to do other things, too. Things that interested me in getting involved in the first place = social media.

I like interaction. I like how videogames have Artificial Intelligence, I like meeting and talking with people, and I like using technology in order to interact and create things on a new level.

I want this to be the orchestra, I want this idea to grow, and being that I know my own work ethic, I’ll make sure of that. but just like ANY interaction – I can’t do it alone.

I want to interact someone with the orchestra in Real-Time. I have a few ideas in the weeks to come, and I look forward to keeping you all informed, and hopefully become a part of this. Because nothing gets me more excited than creating something and watching it grow. Whether it be my own musical talents, friendships, or music projects.

Thank you, and look out for tomorrow’s song!

Hard to keep up

Doing things every day is difficult. I forget to do pushups every day. I forget to blog every day, My list of things to do keeps getting longer and longer. I even forgot to eat the other day!

But somewhere in all of this daily chaos is a quiet moment. I know, because I had one last night. I just laid down and relaxed for an hour, before shooting another video, arranging another song, and emailing back people who need me.

But all of this is part of the process. No one said it was going to be easy. truth is, doing things every day IS the hard part. Because the talent and knowledge grows from there.

If there’s something you want to do, then do it every day. We’ll keep each other in check ;)
